We need to build a successful political party and have an unprecedented opportunity to do so.  But so much effort is wasted on sound and fury signifying nothing, and so little is applied to building a successful political party.  I think Tom sees it clearly and has a balanced, even-handed approach.  I'll support you, Dr. Tom.

Thank you Roy. I am excited at the prospect of making sure our foundation is solid and then welcoming all those willing to put in a few hours a week so we can build this party and make it viable.

LPPA Members:

I want to thank those who have stepped forward to say they would support my nomination for Chair, especially Tim, Glenn, Matt and Roy who have offered their encouagement.

While my original post contained some of my priorities, I want to share with you three others:

1. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT - especially from National LP members living in the Commonwealth.

2. TELECONFERENCES - I intend to supplement physical in-person meetings with teleconferences held through Free Conference.com so more people can attend and participate. I also intend to hold teleconferences open to all LPPA members to obtain their input.

3. COUNTY CHAPTER DEVELOPMENT - Once we have all the new members we have recruited, I expect to put them to work organizing local chapters and running candidates for local office.

If you entrust this responsibility to me, I promise I will not let you down.

In Liberty,

Dr. Tom Stevens
Chair
Libertarian Party of Northampton County

LPPA Members:

My two top immediate priorities if elected Chair will be to fix the membership section of our website so people can join the LPPA and use PayPal whether they are joining as a Regular Member or at the Student Rate. I also want to obtain ALL THE CONTACT INFORMATION for members of the Board of Directors so proper notices and an Agenda can be sent to all who should be notified.

In Liberty,

Dr. Tom Stevens

I think our future is bright for the LP.  I would love to see us build a party with the youth on our side.  The Ron Paul youth will not be accepted in the Republican Party, and we should go after them and build a strong revolutionary party for the future. The time is now to build a strong party people are getting tired of the two parties system.  BUT WE NEED TO STOP THE BULLSHIT WITH OURSELVES AND THE BICKERING!!!.  Like to Tom said if the youth see the party bickering the youth will run for the hills. Let's get a good platform and build a party of doers, and get a party that the American people can be proud of!  America needs solutions, and Libertarianism can be the answer!

As a by-product of "Libertarian Penn" newsletter distribution, I have compiled a list of current and recent Board members that seems to be complete.  I'll share it with the Secretary so he can compare it to what he has.

I have been asked by several LPPA members if I have any interest in being a candidate for state chair.  I would accept a nomination for chair if LPPA members choose to nominate me.  I do this to provide an additional experienced option for the chair selection process, and I have great admiration for the abilities and experience Tom Stevens brings to the process.  It seems like a win-win situation for various reasons.

I know I am not a diplomat, but I’m not an extremist either.  I am a Libertarian activist who gets things done.  I am a resident of Pennsylvania and have been since 2003.  My Libertarian roots go back to the late 1980s across several states.  As a government activist, I promote only the Libertarian Party as the best way to encourage citizen liberty and limited government.  I served as a Libertarian state legislature candidate in 2010 and was recently re-elected as a municipal government official.  I am the chair of the LP of Snyder County and serve as Media Relations coordinator on our state board.  I’m a university professor, a nationally published author, and a professional stagehand.

If the responsibilities of state chair ever fall to me, I would not try to be a visionary, because I believe the members, not just one person, should provide the vision for a political party.   I would not support efforts to needlessly fiddle with the platform or bylaws, I would not support “more-Libertarian-than-thou” purity tests, and I would oppose LP resources being directed toward non-LP candidates.  If we want the Libertarian Party to grow in Pennsylvania, it will happen through our combined efforts focused on Libertarian Party activism.  I would do what the LPPA bylaws say a state chair should do to coordinate party resources and encourage Libertarian principles in public policy.  The rest would be up to Libertarians who care about good government in Pennsylvania.

Regardless of who we as LPPA delegates choose for state officer responsibilities on Sunday, I look forward to continuing cooperation with my fellow Libertarians to advance the mission of the LPPA.

I wish you luck with your candidacy. Should you win, I will give you my full support and be greatly relieved that the responsibilities of chair will be yours instead of mine.

Same here.  I do see it as a win-win situation, my friend.  It just seems more organizationally healthy for at least two people to express interest!

I'm going to "bookmark" the above exchange since love-ins are so rare on this forum!
It is, indeed, good to have at least two qualified candidates and mutual pledges of support.
