I have learned that longtime Libertarian Party activist Berlie Etzel was hurt in a fall down stairs over the weekend, suffering several broken bones. He is currently in UPMC in Pittsburgh.

The condition of Berlie is quite serious. He will be in the hospital through next week and then will be facing a month in a nursing home before hip replacement surgery can be scheduled.

I did get an update of Berlie's condition. His left side was badly hurt in the accident. He has a broken left humerus, a broken left wrist, and a broken hip that will require several months worth of healing to then be strong enough for hip replacement surgery.

He will remain in the hospital in Pittsburgh (UPMC) for the foreseeable future, as the need to get bones to heal properly has overshadowed the plan to move to another facility.

For anyone wishing to send there best wishes to Berlie, his mailing address is:

Berlie Etzel
113 Berlie Lane
Shippenville, PA 16254

I'll send the address in the nursing home when I meet with his son, Vernon, later this week.

Berlie has been moved to a care facility nearer to his home, and he is on the mend. It will be some time before he is up and about again, though.

Folks should know that Berlie was able to return to his home and is doing well.  But it may be a year before you see him out collecting signatures again  Shocked
