Libertarian Party of Venango County

Meeting Minutes for October 18, 2010

Meeting was officially called to order by Chairman Patti Fryman at 6:30pm at King's Restaurant

Present: Jim & Patti Fryman, Vance & Joyce Mays, Vernon Etzel, Tim Russell, Scott Smail and Chris Morgan.

Minutes: read from the Sept. 1 meeting

Treasurer’s Report: there is $21.33 in the can. Any money has been used for postage to mail the last newsletter.

New Business:

Berlie Etzel is currently residing at Golden Living Ctr, (Rt. 66 in Shippenville, PA 16254) after a fall at his home and several operations. Please send a card or visit.

Jim Fryman reported on a telephone survey he took for Vance Mays campaign for State Rep. to see how Libertarians have filtered into the consciousness of the electorate. As of today Vance would get 13% of the vote as opposed to S. Hutchinson’s 43% .  As of the date of the Survey, 44% of the voters remained undecided.  This could bode well for Vance as Scott has far better name recognition and yet a plurality of people are still considering both candidates.

Statewide office write-ins were discussed. J. Fryman mailed a “Dirty Tricks article detailing how Libertarians were kept off the state ballots and listing the Libertarian candidates that can be written in. This went out with solicitations for Vance’s campaign.

V. Etzel has had radio and TV interviews, attended the Clarion debates and also met with voters in Potter County. He had great encouragement everywhere and plans to be at Candidate meetings in Emlenton and Marienville before the election, Nov. 2.

V. Mays has signs posted county-wide, ads on the radio and continues his articles in the Galena Signal. He will attend a Venango Chamber candidate breakfast and also the Emlenton and Marienville candidate meetings.

Scott Smail, a visitor who is looking for a political home, commented that our meetings were different and much more enjoyable than the R & D party meetings he had attended.

Candidate Night Meetings:

Tim Russell, the Libertarian Mayor  of Emlenton, has organized a candidate night October 21, in Emlenton. He has contacted incumbents and new candidates. Robert Pryer will moderate and each candidate will be given a five minute introduction and two minutes to answer questions.

Also on Oct. 25 at 7pm there will be a Candidate Meeting in Marienville.

Old Business:

State Convention - Other plans for the convention are on hold until after the general election in November. V. Etzel suggested workshops for grass roots recruiting of new members.

Libertarian Minute articles are still needed.   Anyone can email an article to Vance for inclusion in the Galena Signal newspaper at vmays@pa.rr.com
Meeting adjourned around 7:30pm.

Next meeting is at Kings Restaurant on the Franklin - Oil City Road. Time and date to be announced so that we can gather and organize data from the General Election.

Come for dinner at 5:30pm and the meeting begins at 6:30pm.
