Libertarian Party of Venango County

Meeting Minutes for Sept. 1, 2010

Meeting was officially called to order by Chairman Patti Fryman at 6:30pm at King’s Restaurant

Present: Jim & Patti Fryman, Vance & Joyce Mays, Vernon Etzel, and Berlie & Rochelle Etzel.

Minutes: read from the July 7 meeting

Treasurer’s Report: spent $148 from collection can on a booth for the 4-H Fair. Received approximately $159 cash from state committee for signatures on nominating papers turned in.

Also it cost $82.25 in postage to mail the last newsletter. This was split between J. Fryman and V. Mays who now has a copier to print the newsletter.

Old Business: So far four newsletters have been returned to correct the mailing list.

New Business: to put a positive spin on the Republican challenge of Libertarian nomination papers there is a flyer in the works to pass out on election day focusing on the Ballot Access bill.

State office write-ins were discussed. J. Fryman will send a letter to the editor regarding closed elections in PA and asking voters to write in the Libertarian candidates.

V. Etzel plans to talk personally to at least five people who will become active in our local party.

He has flyers almost ready to mail/hand out, plans to attend Potter County function, and send out a press release regarding his campaign, so he won’t be left out of any candidate’s meetings.

V. Mays has a calendar of upcoming events, feels the 4-H Fair was not worth the effort, did like the Central Elec. Coop annual meeting and passed out 250 flyers. He will attend the Legislative Breakfast, put on by the Chamber of Commerce. He has yard signs and we also have “Vote Libertarian” yard signs available.

State Convention plans continue with a few new volunteers. We have yet to schedule a main speaker. V. Etzel feels our 1st item on the agenda should be to approve a more broad-based platform. Next make all registered Libertarians members of the party and anyone who pays dues qualifies as a sustaining or voting member. Other plans for the convention are on hold until after the general election in November.

Libertarian Minute articles are still needed. J. Fryman will expand on a letter to the editor and send it to Vance. Anyone can email an article to Vance for inclusion in the Galena Signal newspaper at vmays@pa.rr.com

PGOA Raffle tickets are still available. Venango Libertarians will again advertise in the Sept. newsletter. V.Mays continues to advertise his campaign in the PA Gun Owners Assoc. news.

Other Business is to approach T. Russell of Emlenton to organize another candidate night this year in Emlenton. Vance will gather a media list to email to V. Etzel and other interested members for future letters to the editor and press releases.

Meeting adjourned around 7:30pm.

Next meeting is Monday, October 18, 2010, at Kings Restaurant on the Franklin - Oil City Road.

Come for dinner at 5:30pm and the meeting begins at 6:30pm.
