Is there a way to display more than the five most recent posts in the recent post list?  Will the new forum software upgrade have such an option?

It really depends upon which forum platform we decide to go with.  The current forum is SMF, and I really like it.  Unfortunately, it no longer interfaces with our content management system due licensing disputes or language.  Right now, I'm leaning toward phpbb, but the migration of our data to phpbb may be complex.  I believe phpbb is the closest match to our current platform.

Keeping up with software advancements is always challenging.  Web sites face the same challenges.

I guess that is a long winded way of saying, I don't know the answer to your question yet.
