I'm a pretty open minded guy when it comes to most things. However, with that said there are certain traditional hallmarks that need not be trampled on by individuals pushing their own agenda. The Flag and the anthem are two of them.

I'm really tired of the liberals trying to parse everything into tiny special groups and remake America as a whole into Indo-America, Afro-America and so fourth.

I lived in Canada 5 years and it has descended into a virtual turf war up there over the "Canadians of Convenience".  Hell they even have a groups identifying themselves as Tamil-Canadian, Somali-Canadian and Aboriginie-Canadian (Austrailian not native North Americans) how far will it go? Far enough that Canadian school kids can no longer describe what it is to be Canadian or what a Canadian is without using ethnoindications in front of "Canadian".

If we continue down the road away from rugged individualism we will all end up in one of those neat little ethno-American boxes and be expected to stay in neat little spaces liberal politicians created for us in our own little slice of America. Oh and don't forget you custom tailored little welfare cookie they'll create in the ethnocentric flavor or your particular birthing persuasion.

We are Americans. Short, plain, sweet, uniform and rather unappetizingly simple American. No flavoring for me please I think I taste just fine. And so do my neighbors who are all different shades of America, but still good ol' American none the less.

If I was the city of Denver whatever was in the terms of her contract I hope they were not filled because she did not fulfill her terms.

I just think labels promote division as opposed to unity. I think that is exactly the opposite of why they were started. Or was it?

Good point.  Unity through uniqueness or divide and conquer? Huh

Multiculturalism is extremely dangerous.  I'm Irish but don't go around singing A Soldier's Song instead of the Star Spangled Banner.  There's nothing wrong with having a great affinity and celebrating your heritage but stratifying the melting pot is having terrible effects on this nation and is driving people apart at alarming rates.  I'm also a firm supporter in establishing English as the national language for conducting government business and so on down the line, even if that is one source of spending our tax dollars.  I dont' have a problem in spending money in order to help immigrants learn to speak English, our history, civics lessons, etc, as that is paramount towards keeping our nation strong.  I don't think this was a protest event though, this is a reflection of how she truly feels and it's not surprising.  Most leftists look at our flag with a bit of a bitter taste in their mouth and see nothing wrong with a completely stratified, identity politics type of operation and that's assuredly not good for our nation as it creates sharp, unnecessary divisions while stoking the flames of distrust.

These stories bother me more than most, I hope people like this do not get paid or invited back.  Possibly a lawsuit is justified b/c there is a contract.  Doubt there will.  It's different than burning the flag.

P.S.  Your pic scares me.

My ancestory is German and Dutch, with claims of some Sioux mixed into that. I don't know if that is true or not, but whatever the case, I am an American. I am not Dutch-American, German-American, or Sioux-American. I am an American. If I spoke German, Dutch, or Sioux, or if I was culturally inclined toward any of those, I might see a cause to add the hyphen, but I am not. I see those who do so as people who don't want to be American, but want to be something else. More power to them, but in the long run, it hurts our country.

I don't have a problem with people that are proud of their heritage and continue to celebrate customs within their homes and communities that are related to that heritage. My family is Croatian and Irish. The only time I celebrate anything Irish is St Patty's Day and that is more of an excuse to go out with a bunch of people and party than it is to celebrate my heritage. I do still create certain ethnic dishes from both sides. I also partake in adult beverages that most people have never heard of. The festivals in central PA that the various european transfers have I find to be quite interesting and they have great food, usually. I enjoy our varied past. I do not wish to make any of our varied pasts our current reality though. Keeping the cultural traditions alive in this country is important. But we must also remember that there is a reason our ancestors fled to this country. Politically we must stick to the traditions of the revolutionaries that created this country, not the politics that were left behind from the nations around the world.
