The hearing on the Stabile appeal is scheduled for Monday. Some counties have been holding back getting ballots ready until they hear the outcome of this appeal. If this were an appeal to get Barr on the ballot I suspect all ballots would be set already.

I was trying to get a meeting set up for Barr's visit next Wednesday with the candidate and the Harrisburg Chamber of Commerce. When I talked to the president, David Black, today he said they would make no effort to coordinate a meeting with Barr and he personally did not like the fact that Barr was on the ballot "pulling votes from the right". I think he is a friend of Vic Stabile.

I have yet to hear back from the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce. The network TV affiliates have been cool to doing anything with Barr, although one did say they would consider doing an interview. I also have not gotten any calls returned yet from Art Selby, producer of the Bob Durgin radio show. Temple U. cannot do an event on the 8th as they are swamped getting ready for the third party forum on the 9th.

Anyhow, the full hour on PCN is set, and the reception from 5-7pm at the Harrisburg Hilton should be good. Betsy Summers will be in town for the news conference at 5:30. We need some ideas for events in the early afternoon (before 2:30pm) on Wednesday the 8th.

A long time ago I remember being told that votes in PA for Libertarian candidates help with both ballot access and voter registration (making Libertarian a valid option).  Is this still the case?  Does my vote for Bob Barr in PA have secondary benefits that help other Libertarian candidates?

The reason I ask is that I'm considering a vote trade with someone in a state that's already decided.  If all votes for Barr are equivalent, then I should do the trade to help influence this swing state.  If a vote for Barr does something else in PA, I want to know that.  I'm voting for him; the question is whether I do it in PA or elsewhere.

Does anyone even listen to AM radio anymore? OK, I mean anyone under the age of 90?

* raises hand *

Been listening to it since I was in middle school. And I just turned 30.

I read last evening in some blog that the bailout (Troubled Asset Relief Act or Emergency Economic Stabilization Act or whatever it's called when passed by the Senate) has a particular global implication. Unfortnately I can't find the link and I'm going from memory here, so take what I write with a grain of salt.  This needs to be confirmed.

Here's the issue.  Banks with branches in both the US and other countries can transfer their troubled assets to one of their US banks.  Bad assets could be concentrated in that bank.  Once here they are eligible for purchase by the Treasury.  Thus, the US Treasury might be buying bad assets worldwide.  The taxpayer could be paying for bad assets from all over the world.  And I thought being the world's policeman was bad.

If anyone finds confirmation of this, please post it.

Mark

Campaign finance laws are hell. If something is done to promote a candidate's campaign even if the candidate or the campaign did not pay for it, it could be considered an in-kind contribution, and the candidate or committee would have to report it as such.

This is why when so many of these 527 organizations do political ads, they are always negative against the other guy. That way it is not promoting a specific campaign, and the campaign needn't report it.

Maybe what the LPPA or others could do is put out a bunch of material pointing out what boobs the other candidates are. This may have other repercussions, so I am not advocating that anyone do this.
