Title: Hi I'm new. Got a question or two. Post by: TheDoober on April 27, 2005, 11:15:47 pm Hey there, I'm Christopher and I'm interested in being part of the LP. I'm from the Pittsburgh Metro area and wanted to know if the LP has a candidate for mayor this year.
Also wanted to know why only moderators can post in most of the forums on here. Title: Re: Hi I'm new. Got a question or two. I believe the Pittsburgh Libertarians will be supporting Mark Rauterkus for mayor. They are currently running him for state Senate in a special election. Please contact the Pittsburgh Libertarians and consider attending one of their monthly meetings though. Most areas of this forum are open to party members only. I highly suggest joining the Libertarian Party of PA. Membership is $25 and carries a host of benefits, including a national newsletter, a state newsletter, and voting rights at the convention (going on right now). As a result, according to your rules, I may not post in most of the threads on this forum. This bothers me, especially in regard to the philosophic section.
As someone who will one day vote libertarian, and who hopes that the party will grow, this policy is NOT a good way to infuse fresh blood into the organization. I would guess that there are many individuals like myself who have come to this website in hopes of joining in educated discussion, only to be disspointed that they are not permitted by the libertarians, of all people, to post their views. You really ought to allow all users registered with a username to express themselves here. ( I hate to make my first post so negative but, considering the circumstances, what else could I write? ) Title: Hi I'm new. Got a question or two. Post by: chuckmoulton on June 16, 2005, 10:10:30 pm To my knowledge, there is no age restriction.
Under the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act as drafted, minors could not contribute to political parties. I'm fairly sure that was quickly overturned in court. Title: Oh... Post by: Cicero on June 17, 2005, 10:21:27 am I assumed that if you could'nt vote, you could'nt join a political party. Thanks for clarifying my misconception. I'm sure that I'll join anytime now, and start to enjoy this forum more.
