Title: Travelers' Laptops May Be Detained At Border Post by: bergie72 on August 02, 2008, 06:56:25 pm Say this linked from Drudge Report today. Thought I would share.
"Federal agents may take a traveler's laptop or other electronic device to an off-site location for an unspecified period of time without any suspicion of wrongdoing, as part of border search policies the Department of Homeland Security recently disclosed." Rest of article is here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/content/article/2008/08/01/laptops.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/content/article/2008/08/01/laptops.html) I haven't traveled out of the US since I went to Canada in 1996 and don't have any plans to do so again soon, but this strikes me as another example of Big Brother watching all the wrong things happening on our borders and ignoring the really important stuff. I mean, holding on to a laptop for an indefinite period, for no reason, sharing the data with other departments, again with no reason... Come on!!!
