Post by: bdively on July 31, 2008, 10:40:21 pm
Hope you got a chance to catch it.  Dr. Paul did awesome.

Quote form Beck,

"…I am becoming more and more Libertarian as the time goes on….I mean our government is growing out of control…"

If you don't listen to Glenn Beck, you should try.

He just told a women to vote for a libertarian, republican-libertarian or social-libertarian.   AND to campaign for one, go and tell your neighbors.  Telling you folks, he is going to explode and come to our side very soon.

He finally gets it.

I loved this interview. His one hour special a few months back with Bob Barr was really great too.

I saw that conversation with the woman this week, he told her this weekend go out and find a Libertarian. That was awesome.

Based on hearing what he believes I think Beck is heading towards Libertarianism and he's almost here. He's got a huge audience and will definitely be a welcome asset to Libertarians. ;D

Bob Barr has been a very solid, credible candidate for the Libertarian Party. I really can't see why some people have been whining about him. After this election I think what the LP should do is nominate him for 2012 and let him shadow the administration and campaign for the next four years, giving running commentary as government grows.

Because people like to nitpick and complain? Human nature?

That was an absolutely outstanding interview.  Very strong Bob Barr.  If he's interested, I see no reason why he shouldn't be nominated again.  Just by watching his interviews from the start of his campaign to now, he's come a long way.  Instead of trying to drum up facial recognition for a new candidate, perhaps build on the recognition Barr has already?  Of course, that's up to the delegates, but barring (pun intented :) ) an even better known candidate, I can't see a negative associated with Barr going at it again.

The goal is recognition right now, not the presidency.  Anything to help recognition and mainstream acceptance is most likely the correct path.  Barr is a known quantity.  It's not like he was a nobody before this election, it's just unfortunate that most who knew Barr knew him as "that guy who went after Clinton".   (Though even that could be a positive as I believe the LP is somewhat more likely to draw conservatives than liberals)

Title: Glenn Beck's own show on Fox News at 5pm. Coming soon....
Post by: bdively on October 21, 2008, 07:38:45 pm
Having listened to Glenn Beck for years now, he is coming to our side at a rapid pace.  It will be good to watch him on Fox with a much larger audience, until at least the fairness doctrine comes back.

OK, sorry.  I am a huge talk radio fan, and this is big.

This is Neal Boortz today:

"I can tell you where I’m leaning. The bailout bill disgusted me. John McCain could have made a lot of points ten days ago if he’d have stood up and said, “The government got us into this mess by enabling these millions of bad mortgages. The solution is not more government.”

If he’d have voted against the bailout bill, which I still oppose. Now it has lead to a partial nationalization of our nation’s banking system. God knows if we’re ever gonna be able to reverse that.

Right now, I am strongly leaning…I am probably…and look, this can change and the polls can change this. But right now I am probably going to vote for Bob Barr."

I miss having Boortz on local radio...  Listened to him every night at work during the 2000 election. Now we have Savage on during hid ols time slot, and my radio immediate gets changed or turned off entirely when I hear him.

Title: Glenn Beck Endorsed Sarah Palin Today
Post by: bdively on October 27, 2008, 08:47:18 pm
So close, but he copped out today.  I thought there was a small chance he would support Barr.  Oh well.

What, he endorsed Palin but not McCain?

As much as I hate to say it, I think that Bob Barr's "look and feel" would be a big limiting factor.  Frankly, he is very nerdy, and as much as that shouldn't matter, and only the issues should matter, that's just not the reality.

In this past election, so many people I talked to liked Obama because he was well-mannered and spoke well and didn't think the same of McCain.  Many people weren't able to get past McCain's lesser personality and listen to the issues, which is sad.  I'm not saying that a president is picked by looks or anything (like when Ralph accused Alice of voting for a mustache in the Honeymooners), but it consciously or subconsciously sways people.

There's some truth to your point, Overscore. Mr. Barr is very, very good at what he does, though, which is persuasively argue the Libertarian agenda, and that's very important for gaining recognition. The party awaits a charismatic leader to help take it to the next level--and I believe one will come sooner or later--but until then, disseminating information is the name of the game, and Mr. Barr is a leader in the party we can be proud of. Just my two cents.

It's a sad scenario that symbolism trumps substance time and time again.
I work with people who have PhDs who are starry-eyed over the big O's oratory skills and his "ability to unite."
I haven't heard much else regarding reasons for supporting him.

I watched Bob Barr on the Glenn Beck show last night (old footage, http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6300661667256681550), and I feel a little different now.  My second impression of his was more of a stern, intelligent man, and not as much "nerdiness."  It's very exciting for me to learn that there actually are people in Washington who have my opinions.  I thought it was all too futile and never bothered paying any attention to anything outside of my town.  Learning of the Libertarian Party and other such things really has cured my apathy.

Not to have a hug fest, but I think you both are right and right around the corner i see an amazing LP convention in 2012.  Everyone on this board MUST start saving to go to the 2012 convention.  I would bet the family farm it is going to be awesome.  A lot of infighting, (always is) but awesome.

Back to Glenn Beck though, even with is weenie (yes weenie) endorsement of Sarah Palin he has been solidly with the LP and gave Barr a lot of air-time.  With him now on FOX he will have an even larger audience.  Good times to come.
