MEETING MINUTES - JMC
October 19, 2005

The meeting was called to order at 7:21 by Vice-Chair Dave Powell, in the absence of Chair Tim Crowley.  There were six board members present.

Dave Powell passed out samples of the Voters? Choice Act (VCA) tri-fold brochure.  There ensued some discussion of the VCA.

The motion which originally passed at the last meeting to amend the Bylaws to increase the number of at-large board members from 3 to 5, while leaving the quorum at 4, was brought off the table.  It again passed unanimously, and having passed at two consecutive meetings becomes part of the Bylaws.

There was some discussion of the Pa. Clean Sweep organization.  Its founder, Russ Diamond, has agreed to speak at our holiday party on Dec. 21.  There was some discussion of that as well, concerning ways to promote it.  Mark Rauterkus volunteered to use his auto-dialer to alert our constituency to the date.

Treasurer Rich Loether gave the Treasurer?s report.  Our funds have been reduced by a $400 contribution to the W. Pa. Liberty PAC.  We currently have a balance of $618.85.

Our new telephone number was confirmed as 412-904-2976.  Unfortunately, this number cannot be used to spell anything useful.

It was reported that our website has not been reachable in recent days.  Harold Kyriazi volunteered to contact Johannes Ernharth, our webmaster, concerning this.

Dave Powell announced that the 2006 LPPa State Convention will be March 3-5 in State College.

Mark Rauterkus reported that he is still planning to approach the AARP concerning his exclusion from the debate they sponsored during Mark?s State Senate campaign.  Mark subsequently received over 5% of the vote, which in retrospect should have earned him a place in the debate.

The meeting then turned to the new business of nominations of officers and directors for next year.  Nominated were:

  for Chair - Dave Powell
for Vice-Chair - Mark Rauterkus, Joe Presley
  for Treasurer - Rich Loether
  for Secretary - Henry Haller
for at-large directors - Mark Rauterkus
  - Jerry Gloekler
  - Tom Gillooly
  - Tim Crowley
  - Joe Presley
  - Rob Willis
  - Dave Eckhart

Ballots will be sent to all current members within the next two weeks.  Jerry Gloekler volunteered to take the lead on this, assisted by Dave Powell.

There was some discussion about forming an ad-hoc outreach committee.  Joe Presley volunteered to head up that effort.  Interested members can contact him at jwp7@pitt.edu.

Rich Loether moved to adjourn at 8:51, which passed without objection.
