The Libertarian Party of Pennsylvania condemns Republicans and Democrats for Massive U.S. National Debt!

For 43 years in a row Republicans and Democrats have failed to muster enough backbone to balance the U.S. Budget. The total U.S. National Debt now stands at $6.8 trillion increasing by a record $555 billion in the last year alone.

Republican Presidents are responsible for $4.5 trillion or 66% of the National Debt and Republican controlled congresses average an annual increase of $302 billion vs. $130 billion for the Democrats.

Deficit spending is a beautiful thing from the Republican's and Democrat's perspective as they can get the immediate benefit of showering their constituents with pork barrel spending and other "investments" while pushing the costs off on future generations. One would think that after 43 years of "investments" our Treasury would be overflowing with cash. The truth is that deficit spending by the federal government is not an investment but an addiction that will inevitably kill its patient. Excessive debt leads individuals, corporations and countries to go bankrupt. Just look at South America for recent examples of hyperinflation when the bubble finally bursts.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote "public debt is the greatest of dangers to be feared." If you are tired of the grand illusion portrayed by the Republican and Democratic Parties then send them a message by registering and joining the Libertarian Party (www.LP.org). The Libertarian Party is the only party committed to reducing the size and scope of the federal government by advocating the principle of personal responsibility.

There are 71 Libertarians currently serving in office in Pennsylvania, and over 500 nationwide making the Libertarian Party the 3rd largest. In 2002 there were 1,642 Libertarian candidates running for offices at all levels of government.
